For sure we will see airlines in Russia operating this. The question is which markets outside Russia will be penetrated by the MS-21. The SSJ100 did well in Mexico and Southeast Asia. Those two are likely candidates for the MS-21. I'm not putting off China yet since Russia and China will be collaborating on a widebody airliner which may share same technologies as the MS-21. Hence it is still possible for airlines in China would be ordering the MS-21 for commonality with the widebody. Europe is also a good market. LCCs and Charter airlines there could use a new large, short-range, narrowbody that is a cheaper alternative to the A320/A321. Alitalia had the SSJ100 on order but they had to cancel due to the recession. Latin America is also a very good market.

I wouldn't called it it did well on Mexico or Southeast asia. Many orders from those countries are being canceled because the Airlines went bankrupt or because it got canceled. Interjet order 30. Airlines in Southeast Asia are canceling and going bankrupt. Problem with Charter airlines and LCC is they are going bankrupt right and left especially in countries like Indonesia. So I wouldn't hold my breath if I was them.

As much as China like Russia (even though they don't really, they just want their money). They would make sure they sell their own products first.

This looks like if Airbus made an A317. I like it.

In my opinion the MC-21 has a less exciting shape than the SSJ. The lowered nose section of the latter makes it more aesthetically appealing for the modern world market. The tail rudder also has a 1960s look to it. I think Irkut screwed up big on this. I am no aerodynamics engineer and have little clue on how much that has to do with things like drag. I am just guessing if it is good enough for the SSJ and the 787 it will certainly be okay for a mid-tier like the MC-21. What do you guys think?

I don't think airlines care about the looks of an aircraft unless it's extremely repulsive that it might make passengers think bad about their airline. The A350 is one example of a plane with an ugly shape for its cockpit that Airbus masked it with black paint to make it look sleeker for the advertisements (although I'm sure the A350's nose is extremely aerodynamic, efficient and lightweight as it is).

The A350 has a sleek enough nose section from my point of view. I have heard that one particular functional reason for a lowered nose is better visibility on the tarmac. However better looks is in my mind why Boeing went for it in the 787. The A350 may be trying to find a compromise between the two needs. (Yes, the XWB is even sleeker with the futuristic windscreen.) But I think the future of fuselage design is going in that direction. Look at the Comac C919. The Chinese seem determined to nail at least the looks part.

Btw, do they use composite materials?
