Willing to join R1 at this moment in time (1975) but wondering where to start? There are currently 165 airlines with positive balance. Below a quick overview of the top markets FYI:

US: 44 airlines; 8 of them in the top 20; High competition

China: 9 airlines; 2 of them in the top 20; Very Low competition (given local market size)

Germany: 2 airlines; 0 of them in the top 20 (best #33); Low competition

Spain: 4 airlines; 1 of them in the top 20; Average competition

India: 2 airlines; 2 of them in the top 20; Low competition

:rofl2:

Just looked at India. Majority of airports are locked out with no gates available. Number 1 airline has its sewn up. Like the way he has opened hubs, to get extra gates and then once no further gates available closed the hub. Very neat but not in the spirit of the game. Port Blair a good example.

I opened PorT Blair as a hub so my passengers could get to Australia with L-1649s, but the 747 came out and i made direct flights, so there was no need for that hub anymore.

You could easily make it into the top 10 given the low competition in China ;)

Why don't you start an airline in India?
Vistara and jarkii airline both are realistic airlines. I don't know about jarkii, but i welcome competition, it will be fun! Think about it. :)

Better go to China :) It's almost like US size and only 9 airlines, being just 2 more or less serious and low competition ;)

true. I am finding routes within China that have 1100+ pax that I can monopolize. Guess my Chinese background pays off. :D

It's not That easy to get onto top 10. You'll have to grow very quickly and some ppl don't have the time

Still, it's way more challenging growing in a market where there are 45 competitors asking $25 for 2000 miles flights (US) vs a market with 9 competitors, full fares on all routes and most of the routes with no competitors at all.

I don't, but I need planes to schedule new routes :) That's called "competition", something that you and your friend in India don't have.
