The 777 in real life, because way more airlines use it compared to the A340. For example, there's a lot of 777s flying transpacific routes from Asia to the U.S., while many airlines are retiring the A340s because of their high fuel and 4 engines.

In Airline Empires, I think it is rather easy to see which one choose between A340 and B777, because if you compare there fuel flow per passenger, except for the 777-300, which is by the way 110 PAX larger than A340s and so not in the same cathegory exactly, A340s and A330-300 are better fuel efficient.
- #1 : 777-300 (87.5 fuel flow/PAX)
- #2 : A340-300 (90.7 fuel flow/PAX)
- #3 : A330-300 (92.0 fuel flow/PAX)
- #4 : A340-200 (95.1 fuel flow/PAX)
- #5 : 777-200 (97.0 fuel flow/PAX)
- #6 : 777-200ER (102.7 fuel flow/PAX)
- #7 : 777-200LR (125 fuel flow/PAX)
You also have to say that the family effect between A330 and A340 is pretty remarquable from Airbus.
Now, in Real Life, it's a fact, A340s are giving way to newer airliners, but it is the same for 777-200s. If you look upon Boeing's order books, you will notice that fewer 777-200ER are produced, giving way to 777-300ER (not even talking of 777-200 which has pretty much disapeared from order books). So actually, the 777-200 is dead, just like the A340, which is totaly logical, because both Airbus and Boeing gave way to newer airliners : Boeing with new 777, and Airbus with new A330 (and yes, A330s are A340s, just with 2 engines less, except for that, it the same. There are more common peaces between A340s and A330s than between 777-200s and 777-300s).
P.S: excuse my english, I am French ^^

Once my airline expands internationally, would it be ideal to order the 777 or would the A340 be the better deal? (It's still operating domestically for now: http://ae31.airline-...3s3c&player=52)
Definitely A340. It has the advantage of having commonality with the A330, which means one base maintainence cost for two aircraft (if you ever buy the A330). It is more fuel efficient than the 777, and delivers one in three weeks compared to one in four for the 777. And, it costs less to buy.
The 777 has much more range, though.

I was already considering the A300 and A330 for long-haul operations, so yeah--the A340 is the way to go. As a matter of fact, Kingfisher Airlines was the first and only Indian carrier to fly this plane--Air India and Jet Airways fly the 777 instead.Definitely A340. A340, the 500 to be exact. Although less practical to have four engines instead of two for airliner of such size, it looks stunning and its the reason I voted for it.
Best livery on the A340? Azerbaijan, caught it in real life aswell.

Obviously they could fly that far, but if you read my previous comment again, I did said full payload, which mean all the seat occupied + all the baggages + revenue cargo. Which is what airlines want.
I flew on an A330 from Detroit to Beijing, which is 6,630 miles.

A330-300 or A330-200? They both have different range. The -200 is smaller and have similar range to B787-8.

I love the screaming engines of the Boeing 777 especially the -300ER which has the world's most powerful jet engine the almighty General Electric GE-90-115B!

It's time for Virgin Atlantic to start replacing their old guzzly A340s for the 777. Only then will we fly on Branson's airline again...I love the screaming engines of the Boeing 777 especially the -300ER which has the world's most powerful jet engine the almighty General Electric GE-90-115B!

exactly. It's disgusting how terrible for the environment the A340 is, especially per pax. Also, the 777 is cheaper for them to fly. Or the 787 or the 747. Plenty of options

Yet the 747's future seems bleak nowadays, especially since the 777 has indirectly cannibalized its sales.exactly. It's disgusting how terrible for the environment the A340 is, especially per pax. Also, the 777 is cheaper for them to fly. Or the 787 or the 747. Plenty of options
