What are the benifits of the 737-900 vs the -800 (if there are any)?  The stats seem worse....

In AE, the -900 has no benefit over the -800 having same amount of seats but worse fuel comsumption. In real life however the -900 fuselage is longer but since it retains the same exit configuration as the -800, its max certified seats is the same as the -900. The -900 does allow a slightly increased capacity of first/business class seats than the -800.

The best 737 on AE is the worst in real life. Buy the 737-600, same passengers but better all around than the 737-700.

In AE the non-ER 737-900 is not worth buying because of the way seats are calculated and you don't get legroom bonus (which is mostly insignificant in AE anyway) or more F and C seats than -800 that the real thing can have, an advantage that was obviously used only by non-budget airlines that bought the -900.

Just wait a few years for the -900ER that had those problems with gates etc. corrected, or if you need something similar earlier buy A321 or 757-200 or Tu-204-100/-214 instead...

On AE the 737-600 and -700 have the the same seats, but the -600 costs less and has more range.
