I think it's actually an obvious choice.

It was obvious. Secret Service wouldnt prefer a twinjet like 787 for Presidential aircraft . A380 wasnt even in the race .

For his harem :P

He honestly should have gone for the 777-300ER, though it was obvious that they would want to continue with the 747 series.

The 748i has two things the 773ER does not. Status and a very empty order book. They really need more customers...

I think he chooses the 747 because because of its four engines. Think about it, if one engine fails, the 747 can continue (although not ideal) to its destionation or to a big city with accomidation for the president. Where as, the 767, 777, A330, and A350 have to land incase of an engine failure. Now, why the A340 wasnt consdered, I dont know. The A380 is just too big and I dont think that the pentagon can let taxpayers pay for a $420 million jet so instead they pay $350 million for the 747-8.

Possibly because the A340 isn't in production and it's a European company compared to American Boeing, that may have something to do with it.

And the 748 has 4 engines so it doesn't get effected by ETOPS and it's double deck (as you all know) so it gives them more room for nice stuff inside the a/c.

The 747-8 was a no brainer really. They were looking at 4 engine aircraft (emergency and etops reasons) and so it was between the A380 and 747 and because the A380 has limited airport access around the world and Airbus is European it didn't really stand a chance against Boeing. And the Air Force was already familiar with the 747 which only made the business sense of choosing the 747-8 aircraft stronger.

Will be great to see the 747-8 in Air Force one livery :D

Yeah, but it would be interesting to see the A380 in the Air Force One livery.

Hey who knows, with a new new Boeing 747-8 replacing the Air Force One, then there may also be a possibility for a new paint scheme!  :P

They should have bought AN-225 instead, it got 6 engines, plenty in case of engine failure.

You can bought a cheaper one in scrap yard. Plenty of -400 sitting around there.
