I believe Bombardier sold DHC to Viking Air, and it produced the DHC-6 Twin Otter.

Is that plane modeled in AE?

De Havilland Canada (DHC) became Bombardier in 1988, the year Dash 6 finished production. Viking Air started building a DHC 6-400 in 2010. Since the Dash 6 variants haven't been added, it comes up as a straight production run since 1965.

Airbus are better regarding the A320/737, A330/767 and A380/747, but Boeing are better regarding 777/A340. I believe that the A350/787 race is very close, but I'll have to wait until the A350 enters passenger service before I make my decision.

Not surprising that you choose Airbus above Boeing when you see your username, but B737 > A320 , B737 is best sold commercial aircraft...

  • a320/737: Airbus sells more A230ceo versus 737NextGen in today's market. The same is holding true for orders of NEO vs Max. However, there have been far more 737s sold and it is a far more successful type. The 737 is a brand, an icon, not 747 level but it's a brand and an icon in it's own right.
  • A330/767: Again, the A330 is the more successful line today. However, it's also important to note that the 767 line would have been shut down a long time ago if it was not for the government tanker models they're churning out.
    • Also, the 787-8/-9 is, at least on a per seat basis, a replacement for the 767.
    • The 767-300 seats around 240-280 in a two/three class setup. The 787-8 is a 250-320 seat setup.
  • A380/747: Yes the A380 beats the -8 in sales. No doubt about it. However, the profitablity of each program, which is what matters to A and B, the 747 blows the A380 out of the water. 5 models, and a -400 that sold fantastically. The A380, according to Airbus, is still yet to turn a profit and won't for another year or two. It definitely will not meet the IRR (internal Rate or Return) that Airbus projected and expects when they approved the project. Also, the 747 is so sleek and beautiful, the A380 is an absolute marvel of engineering, but I think it's ugly as hell.
  • A340/777: Not even a debate. The 777 single handedly killed the A340. That and 9/11 and the drop in traffic/spike in oil was the final dagger to it's heart.
  • A350/787: Again they're not competitors, at least the 787-8 and -9 are not.
    • A350 Two Class Setup: 300-380 seats, depending on model.
    • 787 Two Class Setup:  250-320 seats, depending on model.
    • Honestly, the A350 is a 777/747 replacement option, especially on the -9/-1000 options. United for instance is ordering them to replace their 747-400 fleets. Nobody is ordering them to replace 767s. Nobody is ordering them to fly "long, thin routes" like DEN-NRT and US- Inland China routes like other airlines did with the 787-8/-9.
  • To Recap:
    • A230 is winning vs 737
    • A380 is winning vs 747
    • A330/767 is not a competition. The 787 is the A330 competition, that's why you're getting an A330neo. The 787 is killing the current A330-200 and -300, and the A330-800/-900 is a hailmary desperate attempt to save the A330 from being the A340 vs 777 round 2.
    • 777 killed the A340. RIP A340. The A346 is the most beautiful plane ever created.
    • 787 and A350 is not a competition. If it was, the 787 has more orders, because it's been offered longer, but again, they're barely competitors. It's why you see many airlines opting for both, because they fill different needs.

I personally think that Airbus is far superior. Its aircraft are fitted with modern fly-by-wire systems, lots of safety mechinisms which kick in automatically, not to mention that they are very sleek and graceful. Also, I admire them for being a multi-national effort, unlike Boeing.

This is tough. Airbus has some very successful airliners (A320, A340, A380), but so does Boeing (737, 747, 787). I think that Airbus has more variety, but the Boeing seats are very even (short, medium, and long are covered well). And, as an American, Boeing sounds more appealing, but Airbus does have plants in the US. It is a tough decision, alright.

The Nazis won the 1932 German General Election a, leading to the whole wreck of the next 13 years. I think that Shorts is the best manufacturer, you can disagree. They sold about 300 SB330/60s, but still better imo than Bombardier even ug they did sell more.

A real aviation enthusiast picks sides for no reason. See: This topic. Boeing are nice, but Airbus are slightly better IMO.

B737 lose a bit popularity since A320 enter the market, especially when A320NEO enter the market few years earlier, it's like B787 and A350 story. From my studies Boeing dominates wide-body market with their B777. Looking at the number of aircraft built/operated today, there are 1.254 B777 being built while there are 1.139 A330 being built. There are around 290+ B747 in the sky which more than 50% of them would be retired within 1 to 3 years time while there are only 147 A380, this would be break even comparison in 2 years time but for now Boeing is winning on Jumbo-Jet category. While there is currently around 440+ A300/A310 still in service there are 590+ B767 still in service as well.

From the look of its Boeing have 55-56% of the Widebody market while Airbus contribute around 44-45%. It's around 10% domination from Boeing. Not a big gap actually, especially when most people don't realize how many A330 are being built compared to B777 or how many A300/A310 and B767 still in operating today.

But I prefer Airbus plane. Although I quite like B767 especially the -400ER.

Airbus usually likes to rip off Boeing.

Look at how the a350 rips off the 787

Well, in AE, I much prefer Boeing 787 for long haul and A319 and A320 for short-haul. In terms of RJs, I'd use neither cos they don't make RJs. Instead I would look to the maker of the worlds biggest ever plane.

I personally feel that Airbus has a little more quality in their aircraft.  I`m not saying that safe and famous aircraft from Boeing (like the 777) aren`t good.  In fact, the 777 is one of my favorite aircraft.  But I feel an edge for Airbus. I really don`t know why.
