I can answer this a little bit, but not to the extent of other DC's or Brit :P

AE started with realistic prices, but due to the difference between AE and the real world, the prices were tweaked to make it more challenging or to make gameplay more interesting in AE. I've heard of another project going on that the DC's are undertaking, making pricing more realistic, but that could not come into play until later. That's the extent which I can explain it to, hopefully another DC can see this and explain more.

We are actually working on this as a department, there will be a comprehensive review of every single aircraft in the game. If you would like to help is please do send me a PR with your data and sources as this would be much appreciated. As this is a large review with data not available for all aircraft it will likely be a lengthy process for us in the DC department.

Also keep in mind that aircraft list prices change quite a bit even from year to year, so any "realistic" price in the game will still be wrong 99% of the time.

This is a very difficult subject...

1) List prices change over time:

In 2002 Ryanair propose to pay $51,758,100 for each of 100 737-800, excluding price concessions (hence list price) or escalation factor (adjustment for inflation on later deliveries)
https://www.ryanair....davys-clean.pdf

In 2003:  Between $57 to $64 Million
http://www.airliners...d.main/1144124/

In 2005: priced at $65 million
http://www.airliners...d.main/1976385/

In 2009: listed price of a Boeing 737-800 starts at $72.5 million
http://blog.seattlep...not-72-million/

Also 2009:
(Reuters) - Ryanair (RYA.I) is more cautious than before about ordering new aircraft in bulk as it sees prices falling in coming years, Deputy Chief Executive Michael Cawley said on Tuesday.

2) Airlines don't pay list prices:

In 2009, an valuation put on newly purchased planes was far below the list price:
American’s appraised value of a 737-823 to be delivered this month is just $48.4 million
http://blog.seattlep...not-72-million/

In 2013 following a sale to Ryanair:
Neither side disclosed the purchase price for the 737-800s, but O'Leary said it did negotiate a bulk discount off the total list price of US$15.6 billion.
Ryanair received a 53 per cent discount on a prior 737 order. This time, O'Leary said he was paying "slightly higher" prices.
"I'm paying higher prices, I'm just not allowed to say so," he said

> perhaps this 53% discount referred to the incentives on the 2002 order?
