I am at the point where I can realistically buy all of my airplanes when I order them instead of leasing them. Does it make sense to buy them right away or is it better to lease for six years then buy them?

I do this: at the start of my airline i lease all my planes, later on when my daily profit is over 10 million, i buy all my planes.

Leasing is a good way to expand quickly, but after some years buying the planes is better.

I often start with leasing all my aircraft, when im starting to make more profit I'm starting to buy small to medium aircraft and still lease the big ones with an leasing contract of 5 - 10 years, and you'll make profit on the big ones like 500k it's not that much but when you have a fleet of like 50 747's its 25 million and with that money you can buy new ones. So when you're starting to get big i would suggest to buy the small and medium aircraft and lease the big aircraft and buy them of the lessor after the contract time runs out.

For airplanes that depreciate fast (mostly older types) it is best to lease first and buy later. This means the bulk of the depreciation is suffered by the leasing company.

One plane not to buy is the B748i. It dents profits by $1M.
