I was eager to place orders for the 747-8i, and had zero interest in the A380 until I looked at some of the specs...

The 747-8i seemed like a fantastic plane, with a FABULOUS fuel efficiency for its size, great range, but when I looked at the cost my jaw fell. I find that WAY too much to be paying for an aircraft with about 150 less seats than the A380, which is only a few million more.

The A380, while having poor fuel efficiency, seats a lot of people, and for not that much more than the 747-8i.

So...what's your verdict? Which one is better in AE? Provide reasons below.

JUST SO YOU KNOW, this is not the place for an Airbus VS Boeing showdown. This is purely for AE purposes only. I don't give a damn how good the aircraft is outside of AE right now, so yeah... :P

A380 fuel efficiency is one of the best, for me the A380 is the plane with the best "fuel efficiency X passengers capacity"

B747-8i in the other hand is lovely, i used both because i need more plane faster, but if you have to choose, go with the A380

Not as much as you think. They've been designed as competitors.

Don't care about the price, the fuel savings will be more than worth it. Look at it this way: The 747-8 can fly you more passengers with less fuel, so either you actually carry more pax, so your revenue is higher, or you move some empty seats but it needs less fuel than the 777 anyway, so heck.
If you need the lowest casm possible, get the A380 (ironically, the only other aircraft in it's price range is the concorde, one of the planes with the highest casm in AE)

one of the A340s actually has the best fuel milage per seat forget which one though, think it's the -300

But will the fuel savings ever add up to being enough compared to the price?

I mean, will the difference in fuel efficiency in operating the 747-400 and 747-8i on a route make up for the hundred million dollar more price?

I believe it's the A340-200 :)

Actually it's A340-300 but the maintenance per months is around $100,000 more than A330-300

so i would suggest go with A330-300 because their fuel efficiency is really close

but

B777-300 have better fuel efficiency than both A340-300 and A330-300

Personally, I wouldn't be stressing too much about the cost of running an aircraft in AE. on 9 out of 10 occasions, I would go for the 747-8i simply because i know i can fill it to a decent load without throwing yields out the window. The A380 is a fair bit bigger, and you should consider whether you can fill it as well as running/maintenance costs (if you care about that stuff).

Lufthansa uses both

And Korean Air and Transaereo have order the 747-8 too, when they are A380 operators

The -8 has about 2/3 the fuel flow of the -400, although it will hold a little less passengers if you configure it tightly. Your depreciation "cost" will be between 500.000 and 1.000.000 per month while your operating costs lie at about 5.000.000 to 10.000.000 per month for a -8. The -400 has a slightly lower depreciation, but 1/3 less of the operating costs is significantly more than the extra million your capital costs will be at max.

Basically, a you shouldn't care about the purchase price in AE - fuel flow is much more important.

If you fly from airports with very high passenger demand (as it's common in Europe, major US and major Asian airports) than you definitely should choose the A380. It has a lower fuel flow x pax than B748, plus it has a higher speed and about 20% less turn time (which becomes crucial in mid to short range destinations).

However if you intend to use it only on long range flying from/to mid demand destinations, than you should go for Boeing.
