Are used aircraft entirely dependent on owners selling them to the market ?  ie, until an airline decides to sell one, it won't be available ?

Pretty much but there some aircraft on the market that is put on there by the system. These aircraft don't originate from another airline.

There are also planes on the used market that are from bankrupt airlines. The system also seizes aircraft from airlines that fail to pay the lease and

puts that aircraft on the market. Hopes this helps and welcome to AE!

This is true only in S4. In other worlds, aircraft have to leave an airline through selling, lease termination, seizure, or bankruptcy.

Except that in on January 1, 1995 there would have been used aircraft available.  Not complaining ... it slows the inevitable growth of mega-airlines.  So will running out of gates at 90% of the worlds airports....
