...how would you do it?

For those of you who don't really know, JFK is a horribly designed airport, and transferring flights between terminals is a living hell. Because JFK is my home airport, I very rarely transfer flights there myself, but some of my close friends have repeatedly said that they would rather sacrifice infants than travel through JFK :P

Redesign it using the one terminal concept, with various piers, all connected with each other via the terminal, so you don't need to transfer by bus/skytrain.

I would just demolish and rearrange some terminals. Redo the naming system as well, so there would finally be yet ANOTHER terminal 6.

I would make a terminal much larger than Terminal 4, and cram about 80% of international traffic in there. I would make a second smaller terminal with the remaining international traffic, as well as some domestic flights. Finally I would let JetBlue, Delta, and American Airlines build whatever terminals they want, and share the terminals with any other airlines if desired.

Finally, I would redo the "getting there" part. Make it much less complicated.

Not that easy.  LGA currently can't support the weight of most heavies that would be international.  Would only work if it lifted the radius restriction so more domestic flights could come through.  It would be more convenient for most Manhattan travelers anyway.

Otherwise, I'd say ATL is a better international gateway for most flights (especially southeast Asia/Southern Hemisphere).  PHL could get a few more flights from Europe as well since it is close enough and large enough to be a reliever for both IAD & JFK/EWR.

ATL is quite far from Lots of Asian Country you know, maybe LAX, SEA, or SFO, but not ATL

I would say ORD could be strategic, maybe BOS as well, it's not far from New York City and the traffic wasn't as bad as JFK

I would redesign it with a 4 Terminal Layout .... Similar to the Current O'Hare Layout..... interconnected and close to each other.

Terminal 1: Delta Air Lines and International Star Alliance Members (Former Eastern and Pan Am Terminal)

Terminal 2: jetBlue Terminal.... Literally an exclusive Jetblue Terminal with Aer Lingus, Hawaiian Airlines and Caribbean Airlines! (Former TWA Terminal)

Terminal 3: American Airlines' and Oneworld Members Terminal. Also US Airways, Spirit and El Al would operate here.

Terminal 4: Mostly a Sky Team Terminal with United, Air China, etc. (Former National Terminal)

I would have Terminal 2 and 3 be in the same building... since AA/Oneworld seem to get along with Jetblue alot, meaning more code shares and possibly reduced fares.

Terminal 1 and 2 would be the most breathtaking because of Pan American World Airways and Trans World Airlines rich history into them.

A huge problem with JFK today is that there is very little on sight hotels or hotel shuttles and you have to take that damn tram to... i think it is Hudson Beach? Correct me if wrong. So I would have both a Sheraton Hotel in front of the terminals (Like The Hilton is in Chicago O'Hare) ... with a Holiday Inn Express right next to it.

The capacity at my JFK could easily be 80-90 million passengers!
