I shut down Virgin Connection, which was one of my airlines in O2. It might not seem like such a big deal to most of you all, but I just joined in January, and this was my second airline....it was rather unprofitable, and I didn't have much time for it, and its fleet was outdated beyond repair, but now that I think of it...I should have just let it run out. :( :( :( :( It was like my kid...I feel so bad for shutting it down.

Don't worry!  None of my airlines were ever successful.

It is sad for you, but there is nothing we can do about it. Just wait until the world resets or just start it up in a new world. ;)

It's not that it wasn't profitable, it was just going extremely slowly to make money, only making about 10 million a day, and I didn't feel like replacing the old aircraft and updating the routes because it had started up in South America, not the most profitable market to begin with, and was facing hard competition.

I begg to differ. when I first started Wolverine Air 90% of my business was in s america. have cut back and re-routed but im still in the northern part and my alliance mebers have the rest tht I had 2 shut down. I started my airline with the Lockheed 188A. For hauling as many ppl as it does its a great aircraft. I'd b in first place if I havent re-invested my money in ordering planes (this is how you keep your Age of Fleet rating down). @ a little under 16 million new to lease L-188A's is inexspensive. Not to mention the fact that in 10 years you can buy it for 2-3 million. Little under half my fleet are these planes (over 500 by the time my orders come in). Each one averages 2-3 million a month. By the time their old enough they pay for themselves in 1 month =). Always a good thing. Old planes are not a bad thing. You just need to order new 1's to keep the age of your fleet down. Sorry for so long but obviously I love the L-188A =)

My old formula for AE that still works till today (http://ae31.airline-...3o2&player=1410)

1. Find a relatively empty medium airport (30-60K monthly rent).
2. Always always get rid of the starting ac by terminating lease.

3. Lease a used AC, only lease AC that is 150+ pax and a in a AC family where there are different kinds of AC (707,A320,737 etc). Lease it for 3 years or more.

4. If you need to lease more, lease ONLY a AC from the same family. (A321 in A320 family etc).

5. Use Bonds if neccesary to grab any "hot" used ac on the market.

6. Expand routes to the same medium airports. Use high rental airports as least frequent as possible.
7. Never expand on a route with competition.
8. Get rid of any extra unused gates you have.

9. Minimum DOP is 2 mil for 5/6 Aircraft. Otherwise just restart your airline till you find the correct formula.

And you are almost guaranteed a starting success.

When you say to get rid of any unused gates, does that mean demolishing portions of unused terminals as well?
