Seriously EY? I hope they got blocked because they're already pushing the limit as it stands...

QF have axed their codeshare with SAA, meaning yet more PER paxs shoved onto EK metal if they want to earn QFF points/status (adding an extra 10 hours to the trip too, although I guess PER-DXB-JNB would be useful for mileage runs)

Additionally for 10 - 30th June to cater for the World Cup demand QF will run 2x weekly SYD-SCL-GIG and return as an extension of their currently SYD-SCL route and add an extra 2x weekly onto SYD-SCL (taking the total to 5)

QF no longer booking paxes onto SAA will no doubt see most of them book with SAA direct, and those stuck with EK will no doubt be cursing the extra 10 hours.

In other news ausbt claims that Jetstar has commenced flights from Melbourne to Auckland on the 787, making this the second 787 scheduled service to Auckland, unless I forgot something. Wonder how long before JQ's AKLSIN is either cancelled or moved to a 787, as it was originally touted as one of the original 787 routes.

UA's IAH-AKL seems to have died out.

QF have announced a host of new domestic routes:

Brisbane - Port Macquarie

Melbourne - Coffs Harbour

Sydney - Hervey Bay

Sydney - Hamilton Island

Brisbane - Miles

SYD-HVB is a daily 717 whilst SYD-HTI is a thrice weekly 737-800. BNE-PQQ will be a daily Q400 and MEL-CFS will be a weekly 737-800. Presumably the new route to Miles has resulted from a CSG contract. BNE-Miles will operate 9x weekly with a mix of Q200 and Q300s.

NZ will be farewelling its last 747-400 in September this year and as a result NZ plan to operate a one-off flight from Auckland to Rarotonga on 2nd June which will be the last scheduled flight for an NZ 747-400.

QR904/905 on the MEL-DOH route has been swapped from a 77L to a 77W as of yesterday, and all of CX's ADL-HKG services are now non-stop (as previously announced)

Still no news yet on when EK's bringing an A380 to PER though.

With 266 passengers and crew on board, A Qantas A330-200 operating QF581 from Sydney to Perth had to make an emergency landing at Adelaide after there was a warning light in the cockpit that went off, indicating that there was smoke in the cargo hold.

So EK415 an A388 on SYD-DXB had to divert to PER this morning due to "operational reasons" no other information given though, and it looks like they were back in the air reasonably soon afterwards.

Thought I'd bump this with some quality Oceania Aviation news.

Avalon Airport could soon be getting international flights, permitting that talks in Shanghai with the 4th largest carrier in the PRC, Hainan Airlines, are successful. It is hoped that this deal could pave the way for more international carriers to start serving AVV, such as Air Canada Rouge and Air Asia X.
Source: http://blogs.crikey....-more-carriers/

United Airlines has introduced the Boeing 777 on the LAX/SFO-SYD-MEL route. Thai Airways International is now the only international carrier to operate the Boeing 747-400 into SYD

Jetstar have taken delivery of Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, VH-VKE, the 4th JQ Dreamliner

Qantas are downgrading equipment from the 747-400 to A330s on routes to Singapore from SYD, MEL and BNE.

Eithad and Fiji Airways have signed an interlining agreement and possible codeshare and stake acquisition

Qantas are now deploying some domestic configured Airbus A330-200s on International routes.

Now to the big news!

A Virgin Australia flight enroute BNE-DPS was subject to an attempted cockpit intrusion by a drunken passenger.
The flight, VA 41 continued onto Denpasar airport, after Flight attendants restrained the passenger. Upon landing, Denpasar Airport went into lockdown, after Indonesian authorities interpreted the incident as a Hijacking.
The Indonesian authorities have named the perpetrator as 28 year old Queensland Plumber, Matt Christopher Lockleys.

Building on an earlier post
The site for the so called "Second Sydney Airport" has been decided. The Abbott government decided on a site at Badgerys Creek, approximately 50 kilometres from the current airport in Mascot and approximately 55 kilometres from the Sydney CBD.

Will post more when I can be bothered

Qantas are downgrading equipment from the 747-400 to A330s on routes to Singapore from SYD, MEL and BNE.

The term is downgauging not downgrading.

Qantas are now deploying some domestic configured Airbus A330-200s on International routes.

This is an extremely rare occurrence and does not occur on a regular basis. Please refrain from regurgitating what you read on a.net.

This is more military related, but still oceanic aviation.

The Prime Minister confirmed a further 58 Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning IIs to up the ordered number to 72.

The RAAF will begin training of 2 pilots on the F-35 at Luke AFB in Arizona in December this year, and April of 2015.

Singapore Airlines will be reducing A380 services to SYD and MEL. Both cities will be retaining a 4x daily service to Singapore, the down-gauge will be permanent on the daily SQ277 service to Melbourne, as of the 26th of October, this service will be operated by B777-300ER equipment. The SQ231/222 services to Sydney will be operated by 777-300ERs until October.
