Well, neither 4 nor 9 years average age is really old. Anything older than 20 years gets old but that usually is also the timeframe where more efficient replacement aircraft get available.

The -400 is better, the extra ~100 seats over the -300 really help make up for the fuel burn.

I had 10 Tu-144 orders a while back but after not making money I cancelled them and got Concordes instead. I figured out that whole project cost me $1,200,000,000 to keep 10 of them for 10 years. Then again, I was making $50M per month (I think) at the time.
