not sure if this is still alive, but some questions from me

-is there a way how to check airport at the start of the game? by this I mean how big it is, how many pax/year, etc. as right now from my point of view I can either choose one of the huge hubs i know (frankfurt, amsterdam, heatrow, vienna...) and are already full, or it's complete random pick which will lead me to airport with so few customers that it's pain to start (eg. max 50 pax per flight).

-is it viable to start somewhere else than US (before EU open skies) on realistic words? from my observation picking some smaller country will basically forbid you from flying to US, not to mention that you are not able to use all 50 gates available that you pay for, yet you can only use like 5-7 (as there are no more pax). in US and EU you can connect those low usage airports with each other and get to near 100% gate usage.

-what are good starting (~1970) midsize (~100) planes? overall plane statistics and mainly sorting seems to be meh.. you have to manually check every airplane to see vital info about them, you can't sort them by number of seats or anything (or I just can't find it)

well, guess that's all for now, thanks to anyone who will bother to answer some of those :)

For the first 2 items:

1 - create an airline, have a look around, then bankrupt it and create another airline

2 - there are lots of places to start a new airline. Some of the biggest airlines are in China. Or try a smaller country for a different challenge.

So Quality Spam? XD

No it isn't. The top quality deserves those prices. Besides, the IFS section needs to become far more immersive. For example, you select what is eaten in the meal, what drink accompanies it, and what snack is put on each option. Anyone agree

Long haul route if your aircraft has the range. For example, Airbus A319-100LR for San Francisco to Frankfurt via New York. That one served well as an initial money maker. It only works if you are US based

I'm a relatively new player myself, but I've found that medium to long distance routes (3k miles+) with no competition can be incredibly lucrative. If your world has been running for a while you can usually find some used older planes that have the range to make these distances, and if you stick to sectors with no competition then the higher fuel burn/maintenance cost of these old birds won't be a problem. Try to look beyond the obvious glamour destinations as those sectors are nearly always crowded.

The game philosophy the Doc ( original poster ) uses is exactly the same one I use.

AE is a numbers game.......it's about making the most money at the lowest possible cost.

The airline (player)  that does this the best and puts in the time to make it work..........wins.

There's not much luck involved.

Most basic rule of profit for an aircraft........take the cost of the plane and total fuel consumption and divide each by the number of seats, don't forget about the different engines.

You now know which aircraft is the most efficient.

There's a hundred other things to consider like size of the plane, size of the route, route distance, speed......... but efficiency = profits.

Next.

If your good at this then your making more money than 95% of the other players out there.

Unfortunately, not everyone is good at math and economics......witch comes in handy with AE.

Eventually the vast majority of game worlds in AE degenerate into a pissing contest and the airline that does the most things right for the longest......wins.

And that is something I have yet to do.......finish a game world to the end.

If you get into a pissing contest on a route with an airline that has the most efficient aircraft for the job and owns his aircraft too, while your aircraft are not as good and your leasing......pack up your marbles and go home because he will be very happy in knowing how much money your losing.

If your not sure what to do yet,  then keep it simple........... don't start a route war with a top 10 airline.

And I make it a habit of going after airlines that try to screw the supply and demand balance of a route.

If your trying to corner the market on either economy passengers or at the other end......business and first class......it might work for a short time but as soon as a top 10 airline moves in with properly balanced aircraft.......your business model will show it's shortcomings.

What else......oh yea, everyone can make mistakes.....even the best players.,

You have some aircraft families that are operating with one aircraft, that too pretty expensive ones. Replace those with aircraft you currently have plenty of.

As far as
I can see the only family of aircraft where he has one aircraft is 747 he probably has other 747s on order.

  • Ultra-short routes are not very profitable, if at all.  You are getting smacked from low ticket prices and repeated landing fees.
Aerotal Airways
  • The only good thing I can say about the 1900C is it is better than the King Air.  Why are you not using a slightly bigger prop like an ATR-42/72?
  • BAQ has 4 completely unused gates that you are still paying full price for.  I doubt a fully loaded 1900C can pay for all that.
  • Short routes again.
Tasco Air
  • Short routes again.
  • Two families will increase your maintence cost.
  • I really doubt the (tri)slanders are paying for themselves.  The fuel usage on the Trislander is about the same as ATR, and it has less than 1/5 the seats.
If you want to run a small airline, I heavily suggest sticking with ATRs or DASH-6/7/8 as you aircraft of choice.
Most of your smaller turboprops have the same fuel burn as larger ATRs.  So a half full ATR will make more money than a full Trislander.
Also, be sure to immediately ditch any unneeded gates.
Finally, SCAM the daylights out of you PAX.  You need to compesate for low short range ticket prices somehow.

Short term routes are good to fill up unused hours, I have two and with over 20 daily flights at one and more at the other. They bring a smaller profit and add to aircraft's return.
