Is there any way to make an airline running small aircraft like DHC-6s profitable and fun ?

Profitable - yes.
Fun - not so much.
I ran a regional airline out of Taiwan that was quite profitable, but it was difficult because too many planes are just slightly too big (over 100 pax). For example the Bae146 starts out just under 100 pax but grows too big.
