I would have gotten rid of the DC-10 and DC-9's. Then I would have opened a major hub at MCI

...closed any form of hub/focus city in MKE forever!
First off, you're a terrible person!
Second, it's not like NWA really focused on MKE from what I can remember...
"We do what we must, because we can."
Reintroducing Ensemble Holdings, commencing operations Summer 2014.

I'd have re(tro)branded the airline as Republic, kept the 727s around, rolled back to the late 1980s livery...and probably would have had to take the airline into Ch.11 in the process.

I'd not merge with Delta. Also, I would scrap those n00bish Airbus aircraft and replace them with Quality 'MURICAN Aircraft made by Boeing. All hail Boeing.
Boeing > Aibus
Boeing > Aibus

I would merge with Continental and expand the Detroit, Newark, Houston and Amsterdam hubs and expand KLM joint venture.
In order to secure the important KLM codeshare I would block the KLM Air France merger, as AF prefered Delta as their American partner.
Instead I would advise/force KLM to buy Brussels Airlines and/or merge with Swiss and Austrian instead.
As Northwest had no South American routes I would open a (few) new route(s) to Brazil and sign a codeshare agreement with a local airline.
In addition to this I would open new routes to Panama City, and expand the codeshare with Copa Airlines, since they were a close partner of Continental.
And perhaps I would create the proposed wings alliance with KLM, since the other alliances wouldn't be an option as they already had an American partner.
