Does adverts help your airline by attracting more passengers, or does it just affects reputation?

Both to be honest, meant to help your airline reputation and does, inturn, should make you attract more passengers on the routes than your competition...

Obviously, it does cost money and you gotta outweigh that compare to the potential profit you wish to make.
