I've just noticed that the IFE rating system has changed?

Previously, I had 20 - 5* TV screens per 100 seats and 5* audio on demand and I had a rating of 5*.... Now, the same configuration gets me 3* :/

This is 1992 and although VOD is available, I choose not to incorporate it in my cabins because it wasn't wide-spread until the mid/late 90's in F class and not until the early 2000's in Y.

Does someone mean to tell me that you now need VOD to get the 5* rating now, even though this is 1992! :o ....I didn't think it possible, but somehow the rating system just got even more unrealistic.

why do you care about ratings

As most players have realised, the rating system is a load of ****. However, many use the flight ratings (along with other factors, such as seating configurations) to roughly determine the quality of an airline (me included) - for instance an airline with green IFS is, to some extent, good. An airline with red IFS is bad etc.

If, as a result of this updated rating system, I now fall into the yellow or red side of the ratings - that will reflect badly on my airline to the rest of the AE community...

Or better yet, AE could make configs public for us.
I mean, it's not like real airlines can't see their competitor's configs...

We all know - the internet and sending people to fly their airlines make it all so transparent.

But, I hope someone doesn't use this to jump on and say "therefore we should all use IATA configs" for the 70s :P

i just noticed that i pay 320 million plus a month for IFE's. i thought IFE's for the most part was a one time charge.

that's 320,000,000 dollars. how can that be right ? it's killing me. no wait a minute. it did kill me. i'm 350 million in the hole. i think
some accountants and some auditors needs fired for this.

Your accountants and auditors have the right to sue you. IFE has charges for each frequency it is used on. There is a one time charge to install, sure. But they also need to do maintenance, updating, etc.

what i don't get is. in 2007 i paid out 1.3 billion in
pax in-flight services and still for the year made
3 billion profit.
but in 2009 i paid out 2.6 billion and lost 2.3
billion for that same year.
which now gets me to 2010. it's only february here
in world 5 and i've paid out just under 100 million
so far to pax services and that is with out having any
IFE's on any of my planes.
it's killing me.... haa haa haaa. quickly to.

"added"
i figured it out. it was all those planes i had bought and changed over. i know now.

If you order the planes with the IFE systems already installed, it doesn't cost you.
