At Ansett Australia's Swanston St Head Office in Melbourne, CEO Aaron Winstanley today announced the companies firm intention to support regional development in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.

This committment will be implemented through the introduction of:

- 7 state of the art 29 seat Jetstream 41 &
- 1 19 seat Jetstream 32 aircraft.

"These efficient turboprops will offer high frequency to regional Australia, ensuring business people, family and holiday makers can be connected to not only Ansett's mainline operation but also to the Star Alliance network overseas." - Aaron Winstanley, Ansett Australia Holdings CEO.

"The Star Alliance membership is fundamental to Australia's tourism industry meaning people can travel here from all areas of the world, I think its fair that regional Australia is offered this global exposure that our capital cities have enjoyed for years" Katie Gold, Ansett Traveland Travel Consultant.

"Ansett's committment to our state and the proposed introduction of Wagga, Dubbo, Balina, Tamworth and Broken Hill to be connected to Sydney, Melbourne and beyond is fankly exciting for us and we look forward to welcoming visitors into our part of the world" - Mary Glaysier, New South Wales Tourism Development Minister.

"The aircraft are high tech, efficient turboprops, so new in fact that we are the launch customer for the type which wont enter service with is until December 1992. We were faced with a decision, do we take on the larger ATP or do we take on the smaller aircraft and offer more frequency." - Dayne Smith, Fleet Intergration Manager.

"The forecast sales period for the Jetstream type ends in 1997 and our intentions are to secure enough of the type to fully cover our regional operations. At this stage we have 5 that will be on long term lease and two have been purchased outright".

Ansett Australia - Regional Development Update

The airline is continuing to create forward momentum for travellers in regional Australia.

Today Ansett operates to 90% of the countries airports and airstrips. From Darwin in the north to Hobart in the south, Lord Howe Island in the East to Cocos-Keeling Islands in the West. We have regional australia covered!

"The vast majority of our daily operations are actually flight from main centres to regional airports and increasingly hub-bypassing through the use of a significant number of Jetstream 41 turboprop aircraft."

"The Jetstream 41 has proven to be the ideal aircraft for Australian regional operations because it has the best range, economics and is right sized to provide relavant frequencies to give travellers a choice in travel times. The 7 Jetsream 31's compliments the 68 Jetsream 41's services because theyshare common technologies and servicing logistics making it a competitive team in the outback"

"We are the worlds largest operator of the type with 68 in service and another 12 yet to be delivered ending 2002. We currently operate to every destination in Tasmania, Northern Territory, Western Australia, ACT, Queensland and South Australia with just a handful remaining to be added in Victoria and New South Wales. It was regretful that we are still yet to commence service to Broken Hill and Dubbo and we appologise to the people of Balina for the long delay but judging by load factors the routes are a very popular success".

"We remain committed to the regions even after all airports become served and all posible routes are established. We need to remain compeitive yet also ensure competition is kept low on provincial services that simply cannot sustain multiple operators."
