hello,
I am a fairly new player and I am very curious about hubs. Is there any real benefit to making an airport into a hub?

Hubs allow you to catch connecting pax to fill out any empty seats on your planes or your alliance members planes. The connecting pax only pay 1/2 price for their ticket though. They are the blue part of the bar on your load factor.
But hubs also have an increased cost to them, but it is not noticable once you are making decent money.

Than you for the info. I can see the benefit to having hubs but dunno if it is worth the extra cost for the airports with expensive gates

When you want to hub an airport with expensive gates, make a terminal first and then the hub.Than you for the info. I can see the benefit to having hubs but dunno if it is worth the extra cost for the airports with expensive gates
You'll end up paying per month nearly the same as when you didnt have the hub,.

So if you don't have any empty seats in the flights out of the airport putting in a hub is a bad idea? I still can't wrap my head around this yet

It means that you can over serve the route. On high competition routes, you will dump a lot of extra seats however not all these would be filled. A hub can help you fill these seats.
