This time, I flew Singapore Airlines (SQ). Of late, all my flights were on narrowbodies (Grrr...A320s), mostly on budget airlines. Sadly, I've gotten a bit too used to them...
The SQ check-in area at KUL.
Was warmly greeted by name at the desk. Told the agent I only wanted my KUL
-SIN boarding pass printed. You'll find out why in a moment. She kindly obliged and handed over my BLUE boarding pass.
Didn't have too much time to linger around before boarding began, so I went straight to....
For SQ standards, it is quite disappointing. For a start, it's tiny. And prior to any SQ flight, it gets ridiculously full. This pic was taken after most have left for boarding.
The buffet section. Hot snacks are only available at certain hours, like pasta, potato gratin, rice etc. Good thing they were available when I visited.
As I wanted to take advantage of my blue boarding pass, I headed to the THAI Airways lounge, a short trek from the SQ lounge. FYI, SQ and TG are both part of the Star Alliance, so if you're holding a boarding pass of either, you have access to both. This system works worldwide, as far as I know.
Here's a link, with a pic of the exterior

It's a world away from the SQ one. Far more spacious, more food and there weren't more than 5-6 pax inside.
Really regretted not arriving earlier, as I wasn't able to touch any of the food here as boarding was already underway
Boarding at gate C3. Departure time: 1850

Plane type: A330-300 (Obviously)
Rego: 9V-STS (SQ's latest A330)
I really miss seeing SQ B772s around here. They were replaced on this route since Mar 2011. As a huge B777 fan, i am deeply offended by such cruelty. You gotta admit, the B777 does look more elegant
As one the last Business pax to board, I had a chance to take this picture
Business pax board though door L1, Economy through L2. To be honest, this was my first time waking down an L1 aerobridge in KUL!
Greeted at the door by a steward (was hoping for a stewardess ), and directed across the galley to 17A.
There's a front-view pic of the seat but that'll come later as I figure what's wrong with photobucket.
As one of the last to board the pretakeoff drinks were mostly taken up, but I was perfectly fine with this
Inflight mag
Pushback at 1855. I was surprised at how hard it was to get a view of the engine from my seat.

Safety video
I was awfully shy to take pictures. Out of the 30 J seats on this plane, 29 were business travelers who couldn't wait to arrive early and were more interetsed in reading the Wall Street Journal. The remaining one was the youngest passenger in the J cabin, who was having a time of his life on his first ever SQ business class flight and wished that the engine couldn't start so he could stay onboard for longer. So please excuse that person for taking fewer pictures than intended..
I also learned that no matter which seat you're at, be it bulkhead or not, you can't store anything below the seat infront of you for takeoff and landing.
Sadly, the pilots were eager to go home so we were speeding down the taxiway towards 32R for takeoff. Along the way, I spot a more familiar sight - The Low Cost Carrier Terminal of KUL. Poor poor souls
Barely 10 minutes after takeoff, the cabin crew rushed down the aisle with tablecloths and taking meal and drink orders.
Dinner choices: Beef masala tandoori wrap / Chicken Croissant
I chose the latter
My neighbour, on the other hand, skipped the meal and had a cup of tea instead. The time he had saved from eating was spent on getting some shut eye. We didn't speak much. In fact, I can't even remember what we spoke about. Obviously, we had very different ideas of how to enjoy a flight
Sunset over Peninsula Malaysia.
Touchdown at 1945, right on time! Taxied to gate B8 of Singapore Changi's terminal 3, right next to the gate which will go down in history.
Stay tuned for the next installment!

Oh yes, and I have to disagree with you on one point, I think the A330 is much more elegant than the 777

Utter nonsense. The 777s look so much sexier and the A330s make the 777s look more "muscular"Man I wish I could be on that flight, but I moved out of Singapore in '99

"Welcome to Singapore, ladies and gentlemen. The local time is 46 minutes past 7 in the evening, and the outside temperature is 26 degrees celcius. Please remain seated until the fasten seatbelt sign is switched off, and the aircraft has come to a complete stop. We wish all Singaporeans and residents of Singapore a warm welcome home, and visitors, welcome to Singapore. Please note that Singapore has strict laws against drug trafficking. Offenders face the mandatory death sentence.
If you are connecting to another Singapore Airlines flight, we wish you a pleasant journey and would like you remind you that the gate closes 10 minutes before departure. Thank you for flying Singapore Airlines, a member of the star alliance"
(The death penalty part was intentionally announced louder, for some reason!)
Docked at gate B8 of Terminal 3, and was the last Business passenger to leave. Can't say I'm not used to that as I love to maximise my time on planes. Besides, I'm in no rush to beat the crowds in the race to clear immigration. (1- The word "queue" is nearly meaningless at this airport, 2- I'm off to raid the lounges!)
And so, here's a pic of the J cabin
A whale next to us
Bid goodbye to the crew, who were probably the worst I've ever had on any SQ flight.
And so, like a fish released into the ocean, I didn't know where to start my "tour" of this airport
First off, I went to print my boarding pass for my next flight, in the SilverKris Lounge of Singapore Airlines. Yes, First and Business pax need not stand at the transfer desk, and can relax in the lounge while the agents take care of the paperwork.
So off I went to the SKL
Image property of Singapore Airlines
Upon arrival I was warmly greeted by a Japanese agent. I told her that I have yet to check-in for my next flight but I do have my ticket in hand.
She had a look at it and told me "Would you like to check-in here? We're sorry if you want to but the system is down here, you'll have to go to the transfer counter downstairs"
Disappointed, I replied "Oh, ok then...". After noticing my disappointed look she said "if you want, you can have a seat inside while I handle it for you". Wow, I didn't quite know how to answer her, I was about to say "Sure, here's my passport" when I suddenly remembered that I didn't want to be a snobbish J passenger, so I kindly rejected her offer.
I've never stepped on a carpet that felt so exclusive!
