Honestly doesn't ONEWorld need QANTAS more than QANTAS need ONEWorld?
I'll be interested to here any thoughts ppl may have.

A problem also is that United also runs LAX-SYD, a bit of conflict of interests.

if qf swaps though, there would also be a conflict of intrest in NZ; QF flies Auckland to Wellington, Christchurch & Queenstown, they also fly Wellington to Christchurch & RotoruaOriginally posted by S.A. 13
I don't think they would. From what I have heard, Qantas is very happy with its codeshare agreements with American. If Qantas where to jump from OW to Star, they would have to change codeshares to United and US (both who are not as financially stable as AA).
A problem also is that United also runs LAX-SYD, a bit of conflict of interests.
Re SYD-LAX; from memory, AA files that same route, but with diffrent aircraft

You show me AA flies LAX - SYD. Its only UA and QF that fly that route. Also Ansett had permission to go once daily SYD - LAX before they went under

When asking if QF would ever leave OW for SA, Its not about what United would get from the move, its about what QF would get from the move... IMO, QF would gain Sierra Foxtrot Alpha however, stranger things have happened in this world...true, but think of all the imporvements to the the qf coverage, nd the subsequent increased profits due to reduction in competition. United would surely benefit from this agreement. Also I think it can be a fairly safe bet that United will never go bust however many times it goes into backruptcy, due to the way the American government gives out grants.

If Continental joins OneWorld, I think it'll be a great partnership between American and Continental since AA is the only US based carrier in the alliance.
