In real life, those who pay off debts earlier are also considered silly. After all, who doesn't want extra cash on hand?

I Thought paying debts off early lowers the amount you pay in interest, lowering the long term cost?
No? When you pay off a debt early you have to pay the cumulative interest over that period.
For instance, say I pay £30 debt interest every year.
If I cancel that debt 3 years early, I have to pay an upfront fee of £90 + the cost of the original debt left to pay.

There are some debts where you are required to pay the interest that you would have accumulated over time. Most debts, however, are formed so that when the principal of the debt is zero the debt is dissolved. Some have a fee if you pay it off early; I would be okay with that for the game.
