Dear all, can you suggest me the best long range A/C, over 4000 mi. I got confused between B747 or A340.

depends what you want, there are many aircraft ranging from the A319-100LR to the A380, i have a blend of different aircraft for all kinds of demands on long haul routes, i do prefer the 747-400 to the any of the a340s in my mind.

If I'm not wrong, 747's fuel consumption is much higher than 340's, although the later capacity is lower than the previous.

I prefer A340-200.
you just can see it how Ekor Cincin achieve largest operator of A340-200 in Rdelta.
it just so perfect.
(in my opinion)

767 and A330 are the best in the 90s. I generally have a composition of 747s and A330s/767s in my fleet for longhaul in nearly any time period. I've never tried A340-200s, but they look fine also.

IMHO, in AE Airbus is a lot better than Boeing. Usually they have less fuel consumption than Boeing's aircrafts and it makes them more profitable. If the option are between B747 and A340, I'll go along with A340. You can check all aircrafts data on "Browse Aircraft" tab just above the "Routes" page. ;)

True, but I can't get over the fact that

Airbuses are designed so that the computer, not the pilot, is correct in any given situation.

Boeings are designed so that the pilot, not the computer, is correct in any given situation.

Maybe that AE flaw should be fixed in reliability... :P

Is it because the AE developers are European? ;)

Btw, thanks for your suggestions. I think I'll try A340 because of its fuel consumption.

-.- The developers aren't all European to be honest... But do take note that A340 seems to need for inflight flight attendant pax than the similar A330, but A340's fuel consumption is lower XD.

i would go for the A340-300 as it has the largest capacity of the A340's and has a lower fuel consumption than the 747(or A380)
also, what about the 777-200ER/300? they are great for long range(in my opinion!)

I prefer A340-200, the longest range of its family, and only 20 pax fewer than A340-300. 777-200ER has range and capacity similar to A340-300, but more fuel consumption.

couldnt agree more.
sometimes people choose aircraft with longer range, but less seats

The current AE developers are North American. I am responsible for aircraft data, but if your implication was true, Vickers and BAC aircraft would be by far the best in the world :P

I use 767-300ER's on my longer routes and am retiring my RJ70's to be replaced with E190's. And I have the A319LR.
