Fly to less busy airports (the more rented gates and terminals at an airport, the lower your on-time performance will be), keep some time spare on your aircraft & keep your staff happy. :)

Don't drive yourself broke at first with staff pay though. Or free hours. Heck, if your airline is doing all regional flights, forget the on-time performance. Flying to ignored, smaller airports is a great piece of advice everyone should follow though.

But off course it'll make less profit, hence a little undesirable specially if you still need to collect some capital.

How many spare hours are recommended?

So you'd rather continually lose profit as you compete with others on "popular" routes and have to constantly lower fares?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's better to make more money than to have your plane sit on a tarmac somewhere (heeding ThePeople's advice). Route reputation means very little, as long as you have the lowest price.

As pseudoswede said, route reputation isn't as important as price. OTP is not a big part of route rep either, so I wouldn't worry about it :P

I usually set it to be less then full frequency by 3 to 5 frequencies (depending on route distance it changes) and on longer international routes I set it all in.

Couldn't agree more, but we still can find a medium routes which give good profit.

Btw, thanks all for the answers.

Many medium routes give great profit. Flying between 2 airports with 10-15 million annual PAX on the same continent works for me. Some spammer always comes on routes like JFK-LHR. I once had 50% of that market without spamming, but let's forget that. You will be ignored by most other airlines.

Most of my routes are out of airports around 10-15 million, and I encounter very little competition on these routes. No matter how many (or how few) players there are, ORD-LAX will ALWAYS be overcrowded. :P

Yeah, I fly SIN-PVG, $1.2m/day. Though I spam it like...66 flights weekly.
