I like that there is an airline ranking system in the game, however I think it would be a more useful/interesting number if it was based off of annual numbers instead of continuously tallying the net worth of the airline since the day it starts. It would make it possible for an airline starting in the middle of the game to have a chance at being a higher ranked airline since the data used to determine the rank of an airline would be re set every year.

I hope that makes sense... Let me know what you think.

couldnt agree more...

it would make every airline put their best to be the best airline of the year (each year)...
wish Yuxi will consider this...

This is a good point. I wouldn't mind adding a "Operating Profit" column to the rankings, but historically DOP has been private information. :secret:

Does anyone have objections to making DOP or monthly/annual profit public?

I object!
Actually, no I don't.
However, I would prefer it be the total previous year's DOP added up, as this is more similar to what real companies would release.

I think DOP is our private data, it shouldn't shared to other players in ranking table :P

Since no airline is a publicly-traded company (even virtually), there is no requirement to release financial information.

I object to releasing such information, and I do my own legwork to determine the DOC of my competitors. I couldn't care less about an airline ranked 50 spots below me.

Not in favour of DOP being in the public domain. Can work most things out from the current rankings. When they are being update that is.

I was thinking a little more along the lines of passengers carried as an annual ranked statistic as opposed to something like DOP. I'm not against using DOP from the previous year though like sheepy mentioned.

I suggest no, mostly because it will work against newer users.

In older versions (AE2 maybe?) you could see this, and further than that, it was broken down regionally (i.e. North America DOP). I used this to great effect to monitor price wars. For example, when I was the largest operator on ATL-CUN, a small airline (with about a dozen planes, against my 1200+) tried to enter the route. While it hit my profits $500k per day to keep up the price war, it was costing the other airline $100k. Since I had access to the DOP figures, I could see this was hitting his bottom line better than 10%, while it only hit my less than 1%.

The point is, without certain knowledge that I could sustain the price war for much longer than the other airline (and was certain to emerge victorious...relatively), I probably would have scaled back the route to modest profit rather than dedicating 3-4 aircraft to a route at a substantial loss.

Edit: That said, I would like to see just a numeric ranking that doesn't disclose the actual profit (i.e. 1st place, 2nd place...etc.).

Maybe the ability to hide/show DOP figures, and rankings data available for those who have selected to show their DOP.

a little suggestion: i like how there is the reputation bar but i think it would be rather nicer if there was like a airline rating, not like stars more like from 5 to 10 (5 being worst) lets say a quality airline like Emirates could have a rating of 9.8 with 10.0 being nearly impossible.

The rating would be rated by Route Reputation, Route Network Size, Alliance Network Bonus, Employee Morale, Age of Airline, Average Fleet Age, Financial Health.

So it would be like

Airline name - Alliance - Rating - Destinations.....-Valuation.
Emirates - N/A - 9.7 - DXB... <100bn

Not asking or forcing anything just suggesting. :)

I actually quite like the idea of a DOP column.

It would benefit airlines joining later in the game because by then the older airlines have a large reserve.

Alternatively, showing how the valuation has changed? or last years valuation?

it would show which airlines are growing fastest rather than who have been playing longer.

How is that different from the current reputation system? Or do you just want numbers instead of a bar :P

Technically its not that much different, it is because its more like a average of all the (Route Reputation, Route Network Size, Alliance Network Bonus, Employee Morale, Age of Airline, Average Fleet Age, Financial Health)ratings.where as the Reputation Bar is a percentage.

something like:

Route Reputation: 7.2
Route Network Size: 7.5
Alliance Network Bonus: 8.3
Employee Morale: 6.9
Age of Airline: 8.0
Average Fleet Age: 8.7
Financial Health: 9.3

Airline Rating: 7.9

Have you considered dividing the reputation bar by 10? :P
