Miller wants to set it up so that when you purchase aircraft you see that aircraft in your own livery (or that of a random airline if you don't have one). This will require standardized blank templates for all the aircraft available in AE. Some will not require seperate templates (321-100 vs -200), but some will need (or at least we'd like to have) seperate tempaltes for diffrent engines. I had previosuly started on some templates, but before we go forward we need to select some standards.

What I was thinking was -

About 600 pixels in legnth
Thin dark grey outlines (my current ones are kind of thick)
Dark grey windows
Light grey doors and window frames
Color only for universal warning labels and engine exausts

I'm assuming we won't want any shading, just blank open whiteness. How about format? I've always used bitmaps, becuase they're easy to fill, but my knowledge of this stuff is pretty limited.

I know we've got some artists here, and hopefuly a lot of you are willing to help tr and give something back to help make this game even better.

If we want to make them nice, we should aim for something like this:

Posted Image

But I doubt that kind of great work can be "generated" by an computer, customized for each airline and airplane.

I agree with Crazy764... how are you going to make a computer generated bitmap? I think it is a better idea to put just the blank template and let each airline design their own livery.

The template will be handled just like the way logos are handled now. Very simply, the player will download the image, repaint it, and upload it with the new livery.

Okay, its a good idea.. now we can stop saying the same 2 word posts after another and get on focus on the actual issue on the templates and getting them ;)

true, there are most likely more, but since miller would mas-ditribute them, he would need permission from the maker. Btw, Jetabout is much better.

There are more templates on the MAP forums. And yes, becuase they wouldn't be used for MAP or personal use, someone would have to ask for permition to use in the game.

To be frank, I don't give 2 cents to liveries and I find that fixing the "cost-to-fly" bug be prioratised as it really reduces the fun of playing this game.

Pacific- I agree that gameplay bugs are much more important, but they also require a lot more work on Miller's part. This feature *should* be fairly simple, and hey, whos to say he's not working on bugs right now as we speak (doesn't hurt to dream:) ).

Anyway the point of this thread is to establish a standard for templates that will be easy for people to use. I posted some suggestions at the top, what do people think?

The Jetabout templates are much better, the MAP templates are jpg and much harder to use on programs like MS paint.

Only the Jetabout page does not have many new aircraft on it. For example: Embraer and Bombardier and of course for the beginning airlines the Beeches or J31s. These aircraft should be found somewhere else, because MAP does not have many templates as well...
