Just because something is free does not mean it's good. SMF is really awful... Their admin panel is a freaking train wreck.SMF is free so...
I go with IPB. Though there are up and coming free ones. VB is good for integration from what I understand.

On a daily basis. With some things are hidden, but SMF it was so freaking messy and the information on function and what things did was very unclear.

I've never had a single problem with locating what i need in SMF. However when i used IPB, it was simply Illogical and even with full admin rights, some links were broken.

here is my view on this:
For free:
If you want to see which forum is best as a core version, I would have to say MyBB which is as close to payware as it gets, however the problem I found with it is that most good mods for it are paid and the selection of free mods isnt very large neither are they really good (there are some good ones, but most are pretty bad). Now in my opinions SMF is the best (even though the admin panel isnt the best, but you get used to it) because there are allot of mods and most of them are pretty good at what they do.
For a price:
I only administered IPB, however I moderated vB in the past (now they converted to IPB, so that probably says something), moderation, from what I used they are relatively the same in my opinion, vB is just a little bit better with that but it comes at a price where it costs almost $50 more expensive then IPB and it costs more to upgrade too

o.O broken? Then you did it wrong. Thats rather strange. Apart from maybe 3rd party plugins... I've not had any thing broken.I've never had a single problem with locating what i need in SMF. However when i used IPB, it was simply Illogical and even with full admin rights, some links were broken.

This isn't fair. IPB and VBulletin is paid software, whereas PHPbb, MyBB, and SMF are self funded projects.
