Outback Express is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian National Holdings operating from their bases in Sydney and Townsville. The airline operates a fleet of SAAB 2000 and SAAB 340 aircraft. They operate regional and domestic service throughout the entirety of Australia being founded in 2002 to fill demand for regional service with a group of EX. Northern Airlines Saab 340B airframes with their first flights from Mascot NSW to destinations in New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, Later also expanding flights into Canberra before being purchased by Australian National to act as the regional branch of the airline. After this their expansion rapidly accelerated starting services to multiple destinations in South Australia and the Northern Territories. They would later also move to five select destinations from Perth under a Australian National Codeshare in Western Australia. During this time they would bring the SAAB-2000 into the fold while adding more SAAB 340B aircraft and for a short period operating the Beechcraft B1900D before being sold to a Air Ambulance service
Today Outback Express operates nearly 70 Saab airframes and has orders for 10 Bombardier Q400 NG aircraft which will be implemented on Australian National codeshare services.
