Air Turkey Airbus A321XLR (A321neo)

At the 2019 Paris Air Show, Airbus revealed the Airbus A321XLR, an upgraded A321neo that can fly, as the name suggests, extra long flights. The aircraft has a range of 4700nm, and considering Istanbul's location on the globe, Air Turkey knew that they could take great advantage of the range especially with the size of the plane. And so, Air Turkey became one of the first airlines to order the type, ordering 50 planes (with 12 being converted from existing A321neo orders) on Day 2 of the Paris Air Show. The first one is expected to arrive at some point in 2023.

Air Turkey will fly the type to the following locations:

Male (Maldives)
Seychelles
Reunion
Comoros
Mauritius
Zanzibar
Eritrea
Djibouti
Madagascar
Sri Lanka
Kathmandu

And so many more places, particularly in Africa, south/southeast Asia, and places in the Indian Ocean. Air Turkey is very excited to be receiving these jets soon. It is unlikely that these planes will be sent to Europe, except maybe western or northern Europe (maybe Iceland, depending if the demand is there or not).

But alas, we will have to wait and see where these birds are sent off to. If all goes to plan, they will be the 2nd (or maybe 3rd) airline in the world to operate the A321XLR.
