Airbus A380 debut

Airbus A380 debut

On 23 November 2009, CAF became one of Europe's launch customers for the Airbus A380, making its first-ever revenue flight on the Paris (CDG)-New York (JFK) route. In a company statement made that same year, the then-CEO of CAF, Pierre-Henri Gourgeon, spoke highly of his airline's new superjumbo strategy, saying:

“Each A380 will enable CAF to save 12 to 15 million euros a year, which, in today’s depressed economic climate, provides the Company with the means to withstand the crisis. CAF will, therefore, be able to offer its customers even greater comfort while keeping its costs under control. Furthermore, the performance of the A380 is in line with the Company’s environmental commitments.”

Besides New York, CAF also flew the A380 to Johannesburg (O. R. Tambo), Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington (Dulles), Mexico City, Shanghai (Pudong), Abidjan, Hong Kong, Miami, Tokyo (Narita), Montreal (Trudeau), Singapore, Atlanta, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.
