With the introduction of the 777-200LR came the withdrawal of the Boeing 747 fleet, however a new lease of life was given to the type when Kazakh Airlines setup a new subsidiary Kazakh Airlines Cargo, launching operations in 2011 utilizing two of the three former 747's after being converted into freighters, with the third 747 going on to operate passenger services for another airline.

Prior to the launch of Kazakh Airlines Cargo the transportation of freight was done utilizing the Combi configuration of the Boeing 747-400M, however with the introduction of the 777-200LR the capacity for cargo was significantly reduced, pushing Kazakh Airlines to launch this new division of the company. Not only would Kazakh Airlines Cargo serve Kazakhstan's needs for importing and exporting goods, but the airline would also operate cargo flights for various other freight companies around the world as the division would expand and more types began to enter the Kazakh Airlines Cargo fleet over the years.

At the time of the cargo divisions initial launch only two Boeing 747-400 converted freighters would operate for the airline.
