The first Embraer was delivered to Kazakh Airlines in 2012 with a total of five set to be delivered to the airline, the Embraer was chosen to replace the Boeing 717 fleet and expand Kazakh Airlines regional network, more economical and viable for the airline with slightly more range and lower fuel burn it served to fit in well with Kazakh's operations.

The airlines entire fleet of Boeing 717's had been retired by the spring of 2013 and delivery of the final Embraer 190 was received by the first quarter of 2014, the type operated primarily within the Central Asian region, with scheduled flights to Russia. With a blanket EU ban on all Kazakhstani Airlines from operating flights into Europe, Kazakh Airlines was exempt from this ban, however had restrictions on frequency and destinations the airline could serve alongside a ban on the Embraer from operating within Europe, the ban on the Embraer fleet was lifted in 2015 and Kazakh Airlines finally launched services to Eastern Europe on the Embraer aircraft, eventually the ban on frequencies and destinations within the EU was lifted that allowed Kazakh Airlines to expand its European network.
