Wright Airways | 2008-present | Boeing 767-300ER

Wright Airways (named after the Wright Brothers) was founded in North Carolina in the early 1960s as a joint venture between North Carolinian and Ohioan businessmen. It originally operated as a local service airline and flew its first flights using small piston-engined airliners between North Carolina (where the Wright Brothers first flew) and Ohio (where the Wright Brothers were from). The carrier quickly expanded with newer jet and tuboprop types such as the DC-9 and F-27, and by the 1970s had become an important carrier in the eastern region of the USA. Once the airline industry was deregulated in 1979, Wright began to expand into transcontinental and international services which required new, larger aircraft. The airline first introduced the Boeing 767 in the mid-1980s and the type has flown with the airline ever since.
