2003 saw a major facelift for the airline. New management was hired and the airline would spend to deficit growing, but emerge a vast and dominant airline for the whole region of Sub Saharan Africa, and making itself more worthy of its name. The airline would grow from 80 destinations and 187 total daily flights to 186 destinations with 425 daily flights. Much of this was from the purchase of 757-200s, 737 classic and soon NG, and getting rid of outdated types such as the 747-100 and 747SP in favor of more 777 service. The last 747-100 took off from Addis Ababa to Johannesburg on July 8 2005, ending a career with the airline that began in 1975. the last SP would fly from Addis Ababa to Tehran on May 16 of the next year.
Excellent!
