1998
After the success of Seychelles Airways' widebody twin engined aircraft trials a decade earlier the airline took on the Boeing 767 over Airbus' A310. The airline would order 6 767s, two of the smaller 767-200ERs and 4 larger 767-300ERs which were delivered from 1999 to 2001 however the airline would actually operate 7 - 767s in total, with a former Maroc Airlines 767-300ER joining the fleet a year early to help ready up the crew for their introduction but there was one issue - S7-TAK, nicknamed the "odd-one" would have Pratt & Whitney PW4000 powerplants rather than the General Electric CF6-80 powerplants which were chosen for the other 6 - 767s. These state of the art twin-jets would provide a successful backbone for international routes for Seychelles Airways in their attempt to stick with the market demand. The 767-200ERs were commonly seen flying to high demand African and Middle East destinations those being: Johannesburg, Addis Abba, Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah and Doha. While the larger 767-300ERs would fly onto Europe with a stop in Dubai with services to: Paris (CDG), London (Gatwick until 2002 and Heathrow from 2003), Frankfurt, Rome and Vienna. The 767 fleet was given a two class cabin, separated into Coral Deluxe (Business Class) and Coral Excel (Economy Class) and in 2013 the 767-300ERs except S7-TAK would be refurbished and equipped with a tri-class layout of Coral Elite (Business Class with lie-flat seats in 1 - 2 - 1 layout), Coral Deluxe (Premium Economy with 2 - 2 - 2 layout) and Coral Excel (Standard Economy with 2 - 3 - 2 layout) the would also be fitted with seat-back IFE and wifi. Currently the airline now only operates 2 out of the 7 - 767s that they operated with 5 being withdrawn to cut costs and to be replaced by two newer more efficient Airbus A330-800neos.
