After the airline industry in the USA was deregulated in the late 1970s and early 80s, Hawaii Pacific began facing challenges from other entrants to the inter-island air travel market. Additionally, as more carriers began offering direct flights to the various islands of Hawaii, the carrier saw a reduction in connecting passengers who formerly needed to connect from major carriers to a local airline in Honolulu. As a result, the airline management chose to enter the Trans-Pacific market in hopes of attracting more connecting passengers and gaining a foothold in the busy mainland-Hawaii market. Services were launched from Honolulu to San Francisco and Los Angeles using a couple of Boeing 707s and were later extended to serve Tokyo and Guam with the arrival of a leased Boeing 747 Jumbo-Jet. Unfortunately, the 747 proved to be too large and the airline eventually halted its Trans-Pacific and international services for a few years until new Boeing 757 aircraft were introduced in the mid-1980s.
Aircraft N742HP, ʻUaʻu (named for the Hawaiian Petrel), was Hawaii Pacific's only 747 operated and was returned to its lessor after less than a year with the airline.
In honor of Stalinbrad and AJB, since they wanted to see the Queen of the Skies in this livery and have always inspired me to become a better designer by their work
