Air Hawaii | 1990s | Boeing 757-200

In the mid-1980s, Hawaii Pacific introduced the new Boeing 757 and finally gained a small foothold in the busy Trans-Pacific airline market. The type enabled the airline to reach the entire West Coast of the USA and also serve many remote islands in the South Pacific with weekly (or sometimes more often) flights. As the airline entered the 1990s, more 757s were ordered and eventually became the backbone of the airline's Trans-Pacific fleet until the arrival of the 737 Next Generation. The airline even ordered some 757-200M combi variants in order to provide additional cargo capacity on some of its routes to the South Pacific islands. During this period, the carrier also rebranded as Air Hawaii in order to reflect its growing emphasis on its Honolulu hub and increasing share of the inter-island market. As part of the rebranding, Air Hawaii introduced a new livery on its 757s and later extended the scheme to its 737 inter-island fleet as well.

Aircraft N752HI, Pueo (named for the Hawaiian Owl), was delivered to Air Hawaii in May 1991 and served with the airline until 2017. It primarily operated routes to the West Coast and was equipped with 16 Paradise Class and 160 Voyager Class seats.
