Deutscheadler | McDonnell Douglas MD-90-50 | Livery Concept 1999-2006

When July 1st of 1999 rolled around, Olix Airways Germany officially left the main brand. As per agreement, they had until August of 1999 to begin the phase out of the Olix brand. With this phase out came a new name, logo, livery, and identity. Karl Haus wanted an iconic livery, something where it would stand out at the airports they served. With just under 1100 aircraft in the fleet and roughly 20 billion euros in spending cash,
Haus wanted to go big. After countless designs, he settled on an all silver livery featuring a colorized logo on the tail and sizeable Deutscheadler titles. This concept didn't come without objection, there was multiple issues with this design that critics pointed out. The main issues were the cost to paint each aircraft in a full silver livery, additionally the upkeep of a livery like this would also cost the airline down the line.

Still, the livery passed the Board of Directors final vote as the upkeep was not a large expenditure for the airline. On July 3rd of 1999, the final livery was submitted and D-ACVS was selected to be the launch aircraft for the livery. The MD-90-50 stood as an iconic aircraft within the fleet, a prominent aircraft for domestic flights around the European Union. On the evening of July 7th, crowds gathered at the perimeter fence by the hangar waiting for the new brand to be unveiled. TV stations and newspapers stood at the small media staging booth near the hangar doors. The hangar doors opened, as D-ACVS slowly was moved out of the hangar. Crowds cheered as cameras flashed when the full look of the MD-90-50 came into view. Karl Haus attended the ceremony before D-ACVS was moved onto a remote stand.

DH193 was set to be the inaugural flight for the MD-90-50, leaving for Ankara on July 8th at noon. The Deutscheadler international terminal was full of journalists and airline executives. Various members of the German parliament showed, to congratulate the airline on its rebranding.

Over the next 7 years, the dubbed 'silver runner' was a common sight across all of Europe. The final A321-100 was repainted in 2014, but Deutscheadler did keep a SAAB 2000 wearing the 1999-2006 livery at its Museum located in Stuttgart.

What are your opinions on this rather interesting livery?

    Looks really military.

Also, that background makes it really hard to look at, with almost no contrast.

Yeah I see the military part, think I’m gonna keep it though. Would it look better to have the image colorized?

no, it fits with the livery how it is. I'd put a layer of white over the background and reduce the opacity.

Alrighty thanks, I’ll push a revision shortly.

    Revision pushed!

    :/

    ...?

on the 2006 brand update I'll likely cite that as a reason in the lore for the new eurowhite livery

    ...?

The livery looks like it didn't have much thought put into it. The logo doesn't fit the design and the design is dull and boring. I think you were going for a UAL battleship style, but honestly, it doesn't work here. Simple things like the door outlines being white are absent, the outlines need to be white to allow for ground crew to see the door. Maybe include some form of eurowhite and incorporate the German colors into it, look at other European designs or trends and maybe take inspiration from that. The brand has potential you just need to be unique with it :)

Really good feedback, I'm probably going to work into the lore a sizeable livery change. I'll take a look around and make sure to get something better.

bro the logo switch is literally the worst thing that could hapen this is very bad
