Olix Airways Germany | Bombardier CRJ-200 Livery Design

Olix Airways Germany controlled most of the secondary airport market within Germany to neighboring European airports. Cashflow was strong with a growing base in Stuttgart, along with a focus on route expansion in Cologne. By 1991, Olix operated over fifteen Boeing 737 Classic jets along with various members of the Boeing 767 family. Even with Boeing 737-500 airframes joining the fleet in September of 1991, Olix was still hesitant to focus on regional routes. Due to most German cities being within reasonable range of each other, the domestic air market was small. The Boeing 737-500 was simply too big to handle the market, in which Bombardier noticed. Bombardier approached Olix in September of 1991, weeks after the Boeing 737-500 maiden flight. They offered Olix a proposal to lease twenty-one of their CRJ-100ER airframes, for a severely discounted leasing rate. Olix was quick to jump on the offer, as they were already looking into the regional market. Olix later placed a lease agreement for eight CRJ-200s in mid November.

Olix Airways Germany operated the first CRJ-100ER flight on the 3rd of November, 1991. The maiden flight was between Cologne and Dresden. This would mark the first of thousands of flights before the CRJ-100ER retired in 1999. Olix continued to use their CRJ-200 fleet until the lease expiration in 2002, before switching to Embraer for regional based aircraft.
