Delta Auto Plane Boeing 747-8

Delta Auto Plane Boeing 747-8

I guess this would fly some high density route from JFK-LAX or something. Probably would still fail to make money though.

What exactly is auto plane? i'd love to hear the lore behind this

    auto plane??

    auto plane??

In america we have a train that runs from DC to Orlando. You can take your car on the train. you sit in a normal train car and your car goes on the autorack in the back of the train. this is the same thing but with a plane, you sit in the top deck and your car goes in the bottom.

    no

Going to need more context here

How on earth would that even be able to fly? I mean, I'm not sure about the exact specifications of the Boeing 747 - 8 but it seems like it would be quite heavy to fly. The fuel burn would be insane, and Delta would have to charge insane prices to match. Amtrak's auto train works because weight and space matters less on a train compared to a plane. In addition, anything that goes on the plane these days must go through security, so are they going to take your car apart to search inside of it? That seems like it would take a while to do.  I think it might be in interesting idea for a billionaire's private jet, to carry their fancy car along with them, but I don't think it makes much sense for commercial airlines. Basically, you are just better off leaving your car at home and renting a car at your destination IMO.

The car would just be checked to make sure its empty, does TSA take apart your toothbrush every time? and for prices it would be comparable to a first class ticket plus extra for your car, similar to amtrak.

The 747-8 upper deck is exit-limited to 110 passengers + 3 cabin crew. Tickets would have to be insanely expensive to break even...

Would have made more sense with an A380 imo
