Founded on January 7, 1969, Aotearoan commenced its first flight with its Boeing 737-200. A Staplemark and a essential bloodline to the airline, it is widely used on inter-New Zealand flights such as the competitve Auckland - Wellington flight. In its early years, Aotearoan focused more on destinations across New Zealand before venturing off to other horizons, such as Australia in mid 70s.

The featured plane, ZK-CMK "Whangarei", are one of Aotearoan's first batch of its staplemark 737-200. Introduced in 1969, it retired in 2001.
