LTU Germany (Luft Transport Union) Logo

A quick lesson in german aviation history :
LTU or „Luft Transport Unternehmen“ (air transport company) was a german airline, operating from 1955 to 2009 (officially 2011), which could be called a stereotype holiday airline. The airline operated out of its hub in Düsseldorf International Airport (EDDL) and became one of the largest airlines in germany until LTU was absorbed into Air Berlin in 2009. However the airline is still a prominent part in the german avgeek scene, most notably for its widebody connections across Europe (even to airports like Corfu in Greece). The airlines strategy was to serve very thin market regions in the touristic sector, especially focusing on Long Haul operations in its final years. The most iconic aircraft LTU used we’re probably the Lockheed L1011 „Tristar“ (a total of 15 units served in the fleet) wich were later replaced by the Airbus A330-200 and A330-300. Even special event flights to f.e. Berlin Tempelhof Airport (EDDI) or trips across the North Pole were regularly organized and operated in partnership with the German „Eventime“.
The (fictional) „storyline“ of my album is as following :
LTU never became a part of Air Berlin and continued operating its services until 2012 when a major rebranding took place. „Luft Transport Unternehmen“ was changed into „Luft Transport Union“ or „LTU Germany“ for short and the livery was also redesigned. All older parts of the fleet have been retired and a solo Airbus fleet plan has been put into place. The main Hub in Düsseldorf has remained, however a second Hub in Hamburg International Airport (EDDH) has been opened in 2014. The destination strategy is largely the same as the „real“ LTU, but also regular flights to important international cities are now operated aswell. In these 8 years, LTU evolved into the second largest airline of Germany, operating well over a hundred aircraft and servicing countless of destinations all over the world.

Note 1.0 : for anyone interested in this airline or similar carriers. There is a company named „LTyou“ wich is looking forward to start its operations next year (no guarantee on this information cause of Corona). May Visier their Facebook page for more content on that topic :)

Note 2.0 : The name „Luft Transport Union“ was actually the official name of LTU until 1956 when the airline changed its name to „Luft Transport Union“. However I think „LTU Germany“ has enough similarities to the original LTU while not completely copying the brand...

Note 3.0 : Im not a very professional Artist as I just joined the fun, so don’t expect anything super revolutionary that’s gonna blow your mind beyond Siberia and causes you to fell addicted to my work. My focus is (at least for now) more in the „roleplay“ aspect of creating this fictional airline and its my first one aswell...

Note 4.0 : I always like critical comments as much as positive comments. If you find anything you don’t like, just tell me. It’ll help me to make better liveries and improve my currently non existing skills 😉

So, what do you think about this project ? Feel free to tell me

    Do it. Love LTU
