Vickers Super VC10-1150

Vickers Super VC10-1150

In 1971, Empire was basically forced to take delivery of 16 Super VC10 airliners... These were developed domestically and would be the last large airliner Britain every built.

Although built for the "hot and high" airports of Africa, they served in a trans-Atlantic role, and with a fast cruise speed, and luxurious, quiet cabin, it was popular among passengers. They served until 1981 before being sold to the RAF for conversion; their fuel-hungry Conway engines no longer made sense to serve in a passenger role, and they were all sold or disposed quickly.

Older passengers will still tell flight crew about the unmatched luxury that was the VC10.
