TAM is the closest ancestor to Madagascar Airlines. Founded in 1932 to transport mail and French colonial officials around Madagascar, Reunion, and French North Africa stopping over in Kenya and British Somaliland, The airline eventually went belly up in the mid 1960s, having its last flight on June 19, 1964 from Johannesburg to Antananarivo.
