Boeing 747-400M LAP - Linhas Aereas Portuguesas

The 744M is quite an odd choice for a Portuguese airline you would think, but since Portugal has very close ties to Brazil, the 2 examples in LAP's fleet were mostly used on the Lisbon - Sao Paolo route, doing 1 out of the 3 daily 747 flights. Sometimes visible in London or North America, these things were loved wherever they touched the ground. Friendly crews regularly opened the cockpit up for visitors during flight which gave the jets an iconic status in Portuguese and Brazilian culture. This also resulted from the way they flew over the city when landing or taking off at Lisbon airport, visible to everyone in the city. Children would look up and point, while the older generation complained about the noise.
