Ansett Australia MD-80 liveries

In 1988, Ansett Australia took delivery of the first A320-200 produced, C/N 22.
However, just 4 years earlier, Ansett were considering McDonald Douglas' narrowbody MD-80 family.
At the time, Ansett had just retired the final Douglas DC-9, replacing them with a mixture of Boeing 737-200s and -300s.

However, even in 1984, noise was becoming a factor and Ansett were looking for ways to operate outside of Sydney's 11pm-6am noise curfew, replacements for the Boeing 727-200 were already being explored.
Alongside the MD-80 family, Ansett also investigated the A320 and the larger 737-400.
Ultimately, the Airbus narrowbody won and as they say, the rest is history.

Depicted here are fictional interpretations of the 3 Ansett liveries that the MD-80 fleet could have worn.
