Omanwings was one of the first supporters of the Bombardier CSeries, placing an order for 4 CS100s back in 2010. The airline intended to use these jets as a 1-1 replacement for its E175s, which offered just half the capacity of the next smallest aircraft in the fleet, the 737-700. However, in 2014, the change in CEOs brought forth doubts about the order. The new managementhad already announced the retirement of the ageing 9-strong 737-700 fleet, and planned to grow solely with the larger variants of the 737. Plans were also put into place for the retirement of the E175s, leaving the CS100 in Omanwings' future fleet in the same position as the aircraft it was meant to replace. Plus, by then the CS program was significantly delayed, leading to the airline deferring deliveries to 2018 and beginning negotiations to cancel the order.

However, the economics of a next-gen airliner designed specifically for the 100-150 seat market were too good to ignore. After more than a year of discussions, Omanwings doubled down on its initial plan. The airline firmed up its 10 options for the type in mid-2015. The first of the CS100s was delivered in 2017, coinciding with the rollout of the airline's new branding. The aircraft's incredible economics lead the airline to switch 6 orders to the larger CS300, with the first arriving in late 2018, now as an A220-300. The A220 has proven to be very useful, as it has helped launch and sustain routes that were uneconomical to run with the 737, for example maintaining a year-round connection between Muscat and Athens.

A4O-SX is the 5th A220-300 delivered to Omanwings, and 9th overall. It arrived at Muscat on November 25th, 2019, and entered service on the Muscat-Lucknow route. It is configured with 12 Business Class and 120 Economy Class seats. The A220-300s have been placed across the airline's short and medium-haul network, improving passenger satisfaction significantly.
