1993 Post Soviet Interim livery

1993 Post Soviet Interim livery

1991 saw the breakup of the Soviet Union, and in a rapid effort to "un-Sovietize" the airline, Russflot changed all the hammer and sickle logos to the Russian eagle, and slapped it on the tails of their aircraft. French registered A310s were leased as the old Soviet fleet was aging, and this began a new era for the airline, as western aircraft would make their inroads as the future of the fleet. As more western aircraft were brought online in the 90s and early 2000s, older aircraft such as the IL-62 and Tu-134 were slowly retired.

The mid '90s also brought out an in-house design competition to change the livery, to embrace a "capitalist" movement.... with debatable results.

Hey, this is pretty neat! That A310 looks nice, and I also like the attention to detail with dirt under the doors of the Tu-154, instead of all around them...I assume this is how you're acknowledging the prevalent use of airstairs rather than jet bridges in the USSR/early 90s Russia?

Haha yup, you got it. The A310 is new so I didn’t want to dirty it up too much. The Tu-154 can be a little dirtier.

commies had A310s before the breakup of the soviet block, technically

    Nice!

I looked at a lot of them and didn’t see any with a Soviet flag on them....

    Nice!

    Thanks!!

Ahh, that's fair, I forgot about Interflug.  Not a Soviet airline though... :)
